Why do we have a blurry vision in the first days after a PRK refractive surgery?

Public Comments

  1. In PRK the "skin" of the eye (epithelium) is removed before the cornea is treated with the laser. This layer is needed in order to focus light clearly. The removed epithelium grows back in 3 to 6 days. Until it does the vision will be more blurry. In LASIK, there is a shallow slice made in the cornea to create a flap. The laser is done and flap is put down. This creates the "wow" effect of immediately better vision. At 6 months both procedures have identical visual outcomes. However, with PRK there is not flap to worry about in future years.
