Myopia (Short Sightedness) Knowledge Base
Is this correct about short sightedness and long sightedness (myopia and hyperopia respecively)? Commonly referred to as hyperopia, this sight defect is the inability to focus on objects in a close proximity. However, a person with hyperopia will be able to see images in the distance very clearly. Hyperopia is the opposite of myopia or short sightedness, another vision condition, in which there is an inability to focus on objects in the distance (whereas close objects are seen clearly.) Long sightedness does not deteriorate over time; without treatment, it is prone to worsen as you age.
Will the MYOPIA (short-sightedness) decrease when the AGE increases? I have heard; after the age of 40-50 years, our eye decreases in its length from front to back. For a person who had perfect eye-sight before, this reduction in eye's length results in long-sightedness (feels difficulty in seeing close objects, reading etc). And for a person who had long-slightedness before, this reduction in eye's length results in very increased long-sightedness. But, for a person who had short-sightedness before, this reduction in eye's length results in perfect eye-sight. We know; for people with short-sightedness,the eye's length will be more than normal. With the age; in most of people, the eye's length will decrease. This decrease is possible for short-sighted people also. Thus, their eyes will become normal in size which in turn leads to perfect eye-sight. Please help me to confirm this...
Myopia, short sightedness help please? So I am 14 years old and I seem to be developing some degree of near sightedness, and I hope to prevent this from continuing, I am studying computer graphics designs, and want this to be my future career and am wondering if near sightedness is what your eye gets "used" to, like my mom would say, if you stare at one place too long, your eye will get used to that distance, and adjust to that, thus making it difficult to see further away. In my biology class, I sit in the back, and have to strain to look at the word on the board, will this slow the progression, or even help my vision? My main question is, do your eyes get "used" to the distance, or do they get weaker? If they get weaker, I am doing my eyes a great dis-service, thanks!
Can myopia (short sightedness) be cured? [without surgery]? Hi. I have 0.75 myopia in my right eye and i think my left eye is getting bad too. i don't know if its because of reading books or going on the computer but i wear my glasses when i do those. Anyways, i don't want it to keep getting worse, Im 14 so i don't think getting eye surgery is a good idea right now. and i dotn really want to get it if i can cure it in a natural way. is there any way i can make my eyesight better ? I have tried some eye exercises but they dont seem to work. and i dont get how to do bates exercises apart from palming and sunning. is there any exercises or techniques you've tried that has worked for you? please tell me!
Am I really starting to have myopia(short-sightedness) or...? I started seeing fonts from far as SLIGHTLY blurry about a few weeks ago but I ignored it cuz I thought it's not myopia and made an assumption that my eyes were just tired cuz I always did not have proper sleeping hours but it's getting quite obvious last week that I told my mom about it.The fonts on the blackboard at school are not that blurry(cuz I sit in front) but the fonts on the whiteboard(especially in red) look blurry(like they don't look sharp)even from my seat. Then,I went to see the optician and my eyes were tested(not specifically, just using the machine) and the optician said from the mere results yes I have myopia,my right eye with power 100 something D and the left with just 50 something D.....but I still wonder if I am really starting to have myopia or MY EYES R JUST TIRED of not having enough sleeping hours(but can eyes be tired for such a long time like this?) and that the test was not so precise?? What's ur opinion??Thanks I'm not saying that I don't trust the machine..but I hear the results r not so accurate... I always get headaches..and the last time at the optician it's not like we just went after the test,my mom actually suggested to make glasses at other optic stores...(stores?)
Is the primary cause of myopia or short-sightedness environmental? My eyes begin to develop myopia or short-sightedness when I was ~ 15 or 16 years old. That was the time when our family bought our first computer, ever since then, I use the computer a lot, particularly for playing games....internet games, downloadable emulated games, PC games. My vision progress worst and worst. Getting into college didn't help my vision, hours of study and reading gradually worsen my vision, my eye glasses power is now in the -5.0 range. Now that I am really regretting using computers/games/reading too much, I begin to search for more details on myopia. What is surprising me is that there is genetic cause? None of my parents or siblings wear glasses, perfect 20/20 without vision aid, so that must have rule out the genetic cause of my case. So for someone with a "genetic cause", even if he or she doesn't use computer or reading too much at all, would just naturally develop myopia? I would really appreciate more details on this subject, obviously, my motivation is a cure, not contact lens, not LASIK, because you would agree that there must be researchers out there looking for ways to reverse the lengthening of the eye balls?
Is there a link between short-sightedness and IQ? This question has allegedly already been answered, but it has not. I have short-sightedness (myopia) and also a severely twisted right optical disk, which is apparently linked to myopia. My answer to the question is that brain growth (e.g. in the right frontal lobe) could have caused movement in the optic nerve, and therefore a twisting of the right optical disk (in my case). That is the link between IQ and myopia. You can need spectacles for reasons other than Myopia, and a person's special abilities (e.g. Einstein's) can be linked to the size of particular parts of the brain. Only some parts of the brain are close to the eye, and IQ is composed of several different types of abilities. So the Hawkins example does not disprove my idea. (I have studied the anatomy of the brain and psychological testing.) It is easy to find statistical research linking IQ and myopia -- e.g. http://www.iovs.org/cgi/reprint/45/9/2943.pdf It has recently become accepted that the brain grows new brain cells even in adulthood. If you look up images or diagrams of tilted optic disks on the Web, you see that the optic nerve does not join the eye at right angles, on a horizontal plane, as it usually does. The point of my question is to suggest the reason for the link between IQ and myopia and invite experts in the field to comment. Of course, it is difficult to define intelligence, and IQ tests are only useful to the extent that they measure what we call "intelligence". Nevertheless, IQ tests do measure at least some of the kinds of abilities which we think of when we talk about intelligence. So when we find a correlation between IQ and myopia, there is something there that we have to explain, and one obvious explanation is that IQ tests do measure some forms of intelligence, and these forms of intelligence are connected with myopia.
Is there a way to actually improve eyesight? I'm a 14 year-old who is suffering from Myopia (Short sightedness) in my right eye (-250), but my left eye has almost perfect vision. I really hate the idea of wearing glasses, and I'm wondering if there a way (That was proven by a doctor?) I can actually improve my eyesight enough to avoid wearing glasses. I've considered contacts, but my mom won't let me wear them until 16 years old! Please help me on this! Thanks! :)
Is there any way to improve my eyesight? Im 14 and have Myopia (Short Sightedness). When I look across the room, without my glasses on, things are blurred. Are there any ways I can improve my eyesight? Food, habits, hobbies....?
Best Proclear contact lenses? I have astigmatism as well as mild myopia(short-sightedness). I've tried Acuvue Toric lenses, but they make my eyes feel dry and sleepy. Has anyone used this type of lens Proclear? What brands of Proclear are most comfortable for daily wear?
for all who wearing glasses ? i have Myopia (short-sightedness) about - 3.25 is that too mutch? what is meaaning when the doctore told me it will continue more than - 3.25 untili 25 age? and what does it meaning when he told me that when i will turn 40 years old i will not use glases any more why? is that true
multi-focal spectacles? food for thought: how can myopia (short-sightedness) and hyperopia (long-sightedness) occur simultaneously in a person? my mom recently got multi-focal spectacles, which is why i'm wondering. from what i understand, myopia occurs because the image falls in front of your retina, while hyperopia occurs because the image falls at the back of your retina. if they were both to the same degree, wouldnt they cancel each other out? perfect vision again then, haha :) otherwise, if your myopia is to a higher degree than your hyperopia or vice versa, wouldnt one kind of lens suffice? as in, you're either long sighted, or short sighted coz they cancel each other out. no two ways about it, no? any opthalmologists or optometrists? thank you in advance.
Confused about what type of contacts to get [points to best answer]? I have really bad short-sightedness (myopia) and quite bad astigmatism. I think I have to get toric lenses (that is what the optician said) because of the astigmatism but will any type work for the astigmatism AND the myopia or will they only work for the astigmatism. I doubt I'll get any answers so thanks if you help!
Contacts lenses daily, monthly and continous? i have heard daily are the best and healthiest but i wouldnt mind monthly or continous and im prepared to clean them etc etc but i just want to kno if the monthly and continous ones are safe? because i dont want my eyes 2 go worse etc ive also heard contact lenses are better for controlling myopia(short sightedness) then glasses would daily ones be better and healthier then monthly or continous? and finally question relating controlling myopia better then glasses if it is true which is best for controlling myopia daily continous or monthly ps i dont mind cleaning the monthly and putting them in solvents etc im not lazy.
How do people feel about being myopic / nearsighted? Do you hate it? I just wanted to ask for peoples thoughts about myopia (short-sightedness / nearsightedness). I have been myopic since I was a kid. My prescription isn't terribly bad but bad enough that I totally rely on glasses / contacts. I really HATE it. I am in my late twenties now but have never really come to terms with it. I hate the way glasses get in the way of playing sport for example, especially watersports. Contacts help but they are so fiddly and uncomfortable if you wear them for too long. I would have LASIK but I still think it's way too risky. I feel so terribly envious of people with perfect eyesight that it makes me feel really bitter. I was also a really geeky kid and was constantly reading or on the computer, so I have horrible feelings of guilt that I did this to myself. (I know it isn't proven that near work causes myopia but who knows?) I had all of these feelings when I was a teenager but I thought I would have come to terms with it by now, I can't believe I still hate wearing glasses so much over 10 years later. I've just never really got used to it. I was just wondering how other people feel about their myopia? Does everyone hate it as much as me or are some people totally relaxed about it? Have you got used to it? Maybe you even like it? Just wanted to find out what other people think...it's such a common problem that there are a lot of you out there! Thanks guys. Sometimes it's just great to know that other people feel the same as you. A few comments: Rokusasu - I have heard about Ortho-K before, I think you may have misunderstood it a little. It's not actually a "cure", it can only cause a temporary change - you have to wear the retainer lenses every night. However it has been shown to help control myopia in younger people (like you!) - so if you are considering it you should look into doing it right now - don't wait until you are older! (If you can beg/borrow/steal the money!) Get some advice from an optometrist, I am no expert and might be wrong. Flooshy - so sorry to hear about your problem. If it's not correctable with glasses I guess it's not myopia. I hope whatever condition you have is something that will stabilise in the future. Sancho - I am so sad for what happened to you. There seem to be so many like you, LASIK has already damaged many lives. One thing that may give you some small comfort is Joe Tye's 8 minute video. He is an inspirational guy who had a bad outcome from Lasik and suffers from really bad dry eyes. He says it was the worst mistake of his life but at the same time he will not let it ruin him. He comes across as a naturally positive and inspirational guy. (He actually runs a company that coaches people in motivation and self-improvement). His video may help you a little, maybe you could even contact him to find out what kind of drops he uses to help with his dry eyes. He is also on Twitter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zPfZnFZT7sQ Maxi - you are actually pretty lucky. You say you are at uni so you must be at least 18 or 19 already. If you only need glasses for driving etc at this stage then it shouldn't get much worse. It should stabilise fully by the time you're about 22 or 23. Darius B - Thank you for your supportive comments but I'm afraid I disagree. I am familiar with the Bates Method and other natural vision improvement methods. In fact I became a little obsessed with them when I was younger. However they have never been proven to work. Yes, vision is subjective and fluctuates according to mood. And yes, if you spend a day or two without glasses on you will probably feel that your vision has improved. However if you took an eye exam immediately afterwards you would still have the same prescription as before - it's due to your brain becoming better at interpreting the blur more than anything. I would dearly love to believe that myopia can be improved naturally but sadly there is no real objective evidence of this.
Shortsighted - Permanently? Hi. I suffer from Myopia (short sightedness) which, after a little research, I'm fairly sure is categorised as school myopia (although both my parents are short-sighted, more so than me). I developed myopia when I was 12 years old. It developed quite suddenly -- one week i found myself simply unable to read writing on the board at the front of the classroom if i sat at the back. Now 4 years on and I'm pretty sure that my eyesight has improved. It wasn't that bad to begin with but now i can usually sit at the back of an average class room and read the board easily (provided the teacher doesn't write with a light-coloured pen). Does this mean that my eyesight has actually improved? Will I eventually not need glasses and have normal 20/20 vision?
Do the NHS pay for your lenses if your under 16 every time? In October last year (2008) I was tested for Myopia (short-sightedness) and had to get glasses. I am due an appointment soon and was wondering, if I keep my frames will the NHS cover the costs of my new lenses. Also if anyone has any knowledge on the costs of Chromagen lenses, could they please pass it on. I have heard somewhere that they you have to pay an additional £20 to get them and the NHS pay for the cost of the normal lenses. P.S: I am changing opticians, does this mean I get a free eye test and the voucher again. Thank you in advance for any information you could pass on.
Question about Contact Lenses!? I'm 14 and about 2 years ago I noticed that it was starting to get more and more difficult to read the board at school so I got an eye exam. The optometrist told me I have myopia (short sightedness) and should wear glasses to wear at school, watching tv, going to the cinema etc. I refuse to wear them in public so I'm going to have to get contacts instead. Does anybody know whether wearing the contacts all day will make my vision worse? Someone I know who wears glasses said since he's been wearing them they have made his eyes so much worse. My dad says I can get laser eye surgery in a few years but I don't want to become dependant on contacts and make my eyes worse. Thanks ;)
My eyes are acting funny T_T? For the past several months, my eyes feel abit odd. I feel like i can't focus very well even with my glasses on. I have kind of high myopia(short sightedness) and quite often when i keep my eye still the image i see grows bigger and then smaller and repeats until i turn away and look at something else. It's kind of hard to explain but i'm abit worried. Can anyone tell me if there's something wrong? btw my pupils also contract and expand for no apparent reason sometimes. I tested once, i put a flashlight near enough to see my pupils, i was abit alarmed to see it consantly expanding and contracting. if anyone can tell me, i would appreciate it. ty, ty, ty. T_T. I'm only 15.
So, your projectile crashed, do you? As they are sometimes bound to. Long vision by short sightedness. [Myopia etcet errr ah. Do you tend to pick up the pieces, analyse and start all over. Or does it go into the dust bin forever and ever. OR
Why don't short-sightedness and fighter pilots mix? I'm not sure on the LASEK/LASIK eye surgery rules for all countries but many don't fancy it(including mine: AUS) and still contest that their pilots have 20/20 vision. The argument is pretty straight forward, $200mill plane vs. blurry mountain but what I'm gettin at is: OVER A THIRD of people have poor eye sight: http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/m/myopia/stats.htm Are the armed forces really taking the right precaucions when they rule out over a third of possible applicants? (Please mind the spelling, comp froze at publish)
CAN astigmatism and short sightedness cause ....?!? Glare at night? I notice I see glares at night esp when driving. I have mild myopia and astigmatism but don't wear glasses. Are these conditions the ones that cause the glare I'm seeing?? Will wearing glasses help?
suspected cataract in eye? Well, i suspect that i may have cataracts. I'm just 16 btw. But I'm not really sure. I never wore glasses before- didn't need to. but my eyesight IS getting a little cloudy SOMETIMES. Is it just normal short-sightedness or myopia? OR is it cataracts? I suspect so cause my vision getting cloudy- is it caused by cataracts or other reasons such as dust or particles? What treatment should I get? Glasses or surgery? Well, I'm not sure. And i never seen an optometrist before. Yeah, your suggestions..? Thanks a lot! ( I heard it can lead to blindness? ) aw man!
I'm confused about whether wearing glasses will only worsen you eyesight? Well my parents reckon that if you're only slightly myopic (short/near sightedness) then wearing glasses will only make it worse, since your eyes become 'dependent' on the glasses. They say you should instead just 'train' your eyes (such as not reading in dim light, holding a book at least 12 inches away from you when reading etc) to prevent your myopia from getting worse, and it may even make it go away. This sounds truly bizarre to me - I mean, glasses designed for short-sightedness have a concave lens that actually help focus an image onto your retina. How does it make it worse? Thanks for all your opinions on this!
Do you have to legally wear glasses to drive if prescribed glasses? I have recently been suffering from temporary short sightedness, that I think it is some type of pseudomyopia also called Nearwork Induced Transient Myopia. At the start of the day my vision is normally fine but while attending classes (I have just started studying again) I find that by about halfway through the day I am unable to read the projected slides. I have been to the opticians a few years ago and was told this was normal when studying hard and tired, and was told my sight was fine. Though it sounded like I may have been prescibed glasses for shortsight if I had gone at the time. I am worried that if I go back, I will be told I need glasses and will have to wear them the whole time and my vision will get worse. Does anyone know if you have to legally always wear glasses for driving in the UK even if you're only given a slight prescription? I have also heard it may be possible to help far sight by wearing reading glasses for close up work, has anyone ever been prescribed these for temporary shortsightedness? or will the optician if hearing my problem make me wear glasses for distance and ignore any arguement for reading glasses? Yeh definitely common sense to wear them if you need to but if your sight is fine when not studying and you are prescribed glasses for distance it will make you dependent on glasses where your vision was fine before...
What help is there for visually handicapped students in school (e.g. massage school)? I’d like to take a vocational course on massage therapy so I can be a licensed massage therapist. I was born with myopia (near-sightedness) and nystagmus caused by partial albinism. I would like to know what special arrangements could be made for me by US massage schools. I never finished school in my home country and also need to take a GED test to secure a high school equivalency diploma. I am extremely near-sighted. While I can cross the street and read large signs, I couldn’t possibly read text on a blackboard or projector screen unless it’s very large. I’ve taken short massage courses before (outside the US) but my disability didn’t really cause a problem since it was all “hands on” training. They also gave me reference materials for the lessons. Do massage schools as well as universities make arrangements for visually impaired students? Like special equipment, preferntial sitting, etc.?
Am I really starting to have myopia(short-sightedness) or...? started seeing fonts from far as SLIGHTLY blurry about a few weeks ago but I ignored it cuz I thought it's not myopia and made an assumption that my eyes were just tired cuz I always did not have proper sleeping hours but it's getting quite obvious last week that I told my mom about it.The fonts on the blackboard at school are not that blurry(cuz I sit in front) but the fonts on the whiteboard(especially in red) look blurry(like they don't look sharp)even from my seat.

What's ur opinion??Thanks no offence, but I wasn't tested by an optician..by by a machine.I hear that the results r not that accurate until u got tested with the optician himself(where he shows alphabets and so on).I'm not trying to question the credibility of the optician...but some optic stores can lie to u saying that u got sightedness to enhance their business XD(I heard from people)

A Cure Or Reversal For Short-Sightedness (Myopia)? Hi. Ever since I got into computers my eyesight has deteriorated. My eyes have gotten used to looking at the close-up screen. I'm 13 so I don't know a lot about this stuff, but since I wasn't born with this condition, is there a way to reverse it? Like, could I make my eyes get used to looking at far away things? Appreciate your help, thanks.
Short sightedness disappears over time? I have experienced myopia for about a year now, it's not that bad, so I don't use glasses or contacts. It is annoying though. Does the sightedness gets better over time, I heard that it does. How long?
Do animals suffer from short-sightedness? Not that I've seen many rabbits wearing glasses but is it only humans that suffer from myopia? I know that some breeds of dog suffer from it due to negative effects of selective breeding but what about animals in the wild?
Losing my sight.. any tips? Anyone know anything that can help your eyes get better if you have Myopia short sightedness (things far away are blurry). Or anything you can do? eye exercises or something. or do you think theres nothing to make it better..? Also is there anything you should avoid doing so you don't worsen your eyes? My eyes are only -1 at the moment but I don't want them to get worse so please give me any of your knowledge about Myopia. Thanks.
myopia???......................? In those days writers frequently discussed the effects of television on family life. However, a curious myopia afflicted those first observers: almost without exception the regarded television as favorabl, beneficial, indeed, wondrous influence upon the family" What does myopia mean?
Myopia????? What is the correction for this problem? (the problem is myopia)
Myopia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? I am 18 and have "myopia" with -1.5 both eyes and its the same from last 3 years.. i want to remove my specs but can't because i m having trouble in wearing "contacts" as well. So plz suggest me a way to cure my eyes completely ...Can Lasik be good
Types of Myopia? I need to know about degenerative myopia. I know there are three types of myopia: normal, hereditary, and degenerative. Normal myopia is if your vision gets worse from watching too much TV and stuff, right? Hereditary is just like normal myopia, except your if runs in the family, so you have a higher chance of myopia. But what about degenerative? I read that even when you're past adulthood, your vision will keep getting worse, and it can't be helped. How can I tell if I have degenerative myopia of not? Both my parents wear glasses, and I started wearing them in kindergarten (I wear contacts now). Could someone help me?
myopia increasing prescription with age? I read another post that myopia (nearsightedness) usually stays about the same as people hit their 20's. Mine has been about -6/-7 for the past 5 years. However, I still fear that it will get worse as I age (40's, 50's, etc). For people who have had myopia, especially severe myopia, for a long time, have you had any problems as you aged? Has your vision gotten worse when you hit your 40's, 50's, etc? at 19, my prescription was -6.25, at 20 it was -6.75, and at 21 it was -7.25. Is this normal progression? When will it stop???
Severe Myopia? Just curious if anyone with high myopia (-6 and higher) has had any problems as they aged in regards to their eyes. I'm in my 20's and I've had -6/-7 for the last five years (only minute changes in my prescription). My doctor said my eyes are healthy, but because of the thin retina, I have more of a risk for things like retina tears. Just wondering if other people with severe myopia do anything extra to protect their eyes or if there are any ways to help improve your myopia.
About my myopia -- is it growing? The first time I went with an ophthalmologist (2 years ago) I was diagnosed -0.75 of myopia and a very small amount of astigmatism in both eyes. A year later, my myopia grew to -1.5 but the doctor told me it wouldn't grow more. I'm 20 now and I've noticed that without my glasses, far away objects are -much- more blurrier than a year ago. The thing is that I still can see them very good with my glasses... So do you think my myopia is growing even if my doctor told me it wouldn't? Do you think I really need to get a new prescription even though I can still see perfectly -according to me- with my current glasses? I currently just use them when it is strictly necessary.
Contacts for myopia as well as astigmatism? I know that there are contacts for astigmatism and contacts for myopia and even some for severe myopia. But are there contacts for severe myopia AND moderate/severe astigmatism? If it helps, my prescription is about -7.00 sph & -4.00 cyl Thanks in advance! :)
Myopia & Blindness? I've had myopia ever since I was 6, my whole family has it which leads me to believe its genetics. During my teenage years my diopters jumped from -1.00 to -8.00, its only now steadied and stopped at -9.00 to -9.50 after I passed the age of 18. My parent's have always told me that myopia will lead to blindness if I don't strictly follow optician's suggestions to lowering it. I never believed them, and even now I don't think blindness is a big probability. But I've always been very worried that it might be true and I might be at risk. So I wanna hear some professional opinions. How likely am I to go blind either now or later as I age? I wear contacts almost daily now if that matters. I have no flashes, and very very occassionally do I see black spots flashing briefly at the very margins of my eyes, like twice or so in a year. Besides that there really is no noticeable damages to my eyes. So, opinions please.
Will reading cause myopia? All my life I had good vision until I turned 19-20 yrs. of age. I began reading a lot of novels. I read for 5-6 hours straight on a daily basis during that one year. During that time I noticed that when I stopped reading my vision would be blurred and it will take a few minutes to get back in focus. But as time went on and I read more books it was harder for me to get my eyes to focus on distant objects. Some people say that myopia is because of the shape of the eye or that it’s genetic. But that can’t be in my case. I used to have good vision and members of my family do not suffer from myopia. I’m 25 now and my myopia did not progress… I also do not read as much as I used to. I have heard of the Bates method. I was wondering if it will work in my case? I heard its true. Here is a website that covers it. http://www.preventmyopia.org/flashanimation.html
Myopic (myopia).....what the risk when ignore to use glass?? Myopic (myopia).....what the risk when ignore to use glass?? My friend is myopic (myopia) and he dont want use a glass or even a lens for his eyes. Whenever he want see something (like reading, watch TV) he force his eyes to see it and now his eyes become worse......... I want to know the risk of it and can his eyes be blind or blur if he still dont want use the glass or lens and keep force his eyes to looking at something....
Preventing myopia? I was looking at this site: nearsightedness.org It basically says that close up work, like reading in school, along with the myopia gene causes myopia. And, we should give each child reading glasses when they read so as to avoid nearsightedness. But, it also says that glasses are given instead because eye doctors are greedy and so are the eye doctors. And, by giving children glasses, it destroys their eyesight. I was just wondering if anyone knows how true it is that reading and doing things up close really strain your eyes so much that it causes your vision to go.
Myopia.org OPINIONS!? Hey I just spent the last 3 hours reading a website that has really changed my life and now im feeling pretty depressed its called www.myopia.org , ive been wearing glasses all my life and now I realize that all this time ive been quite literally destroying my vision.... I wish I would have known about this when I was a kid, It depresses me to read some of the people that have saved their eyesight knowing that I killed mine just by following what the optometrist said.... Please comment if you have fully read the website, and if you are an optometrist please tell the truth if you knew about the dangerous side effects of glasses... you can even change your name if you want so your associates wont know. I just want to know how many optometrists/ophthalmologists/opticians knew the truth about this thanks, I feel really bad right now about what I did to my eyes :( I rarely get upset about things and im usually a very happy person... but this has really gotten to me... I am in a state of shock and panic.... seriously
Pls help me!!! myopia infos? =What causes myopia? =Based on the concepts in physics, what are the differences in terms of features and the way the light rays travel in a normal eye, eye with myopia and eye with farsightedness? (Pictures and readable infos)
myopia with 0.25 power.? I'm suffering from mild myopia with 0.25 optical power. Is it really harmful. Do I need to wear any glasses for this or its okay without them too? Also, I use the computer alot during my day. Will anti-glare glasses (without any optical power) be sufficient, or if required I should go for anti-glare glasses with power.
Myopia Genetic? I have seen a lot of people that say myopia is genetic. I am nearsighted, but only two people in my extended family are (one cousin (out of 48) and one aunt). So if its genetic, and there doesn't seem to be much a of a genetic link, what else could cause it?
myopia progression? if you have -1.5 myopia how bad does it get if I don't wear glasses all the time. Currently I only put them on if I have a problem seeing at a distance, do I need to leave them on throughout the day?

Ways to cure Myopia? , and glasses/contacts.? Hey all, I recently had to take my boxing 'fitness' health examination. I'm all good except for the vision. I am 13 years old with 20/40 eyesight. Yes, I know this is bad. I've done some research on it, and I have 'Myopia' I'm assuming, from being on the computer too much is my guess. But anyway I would like to know if there are any ways to correct Myopia without the use of contacts/glasses? If so, please feel free to share. Also, at school I tried on a friends glasses, it made my eyesight SO much better, completely improved. But as soon as I took them off, for about 30 seconds I felt like I had 20/300 (hahaha). Anyways, now I have this theory that by getting glasses and wearing them, It will ruin my eyes even more. Is my theory correct? Thanks, Jon.

Myopia (Nearsightedness)? I have been to the eye doctor before and they said that I was pretty much better than 2020 vision, but I was barley nearsighted.I don't have to wear glasses, but my parents are both nearsighted. So now I have the feeling that I got worse in a year or less.I took an eye test and she said she recomended to have me go back to the eye doctor.I had one of my friends who is nearsighted to let me wear his glasses.I had him hold a book across the hall.Without the glasses it was blurry. But with everything was clear, and to far for words.Do you think I could have Myopia?
Is having hyperopia and myopia in both eyes common? Let's start with vocabulary (hyperopia= farsightedness and myopia=nearsightedness). I was slightly curious when I found out that my right eye is myopia and my left is hyperopia (it really irritates my eyes). I wear glasses so, that's not a problem. But, my main question is is this common? Having two different eye types at age 13? Or, will it even out as I get older? Because, from my eye-test results, they seem to be worsening everytime I go to get an eye exam, so, I was wondering if this is something that will become progressively worse, or, will become progressively better?
Can biospectrum technology cure myopia as used in EyeRelax2? EyeRelax is supposed to be a visual-spectrum medical device clinically programmed to improve shortsightedness or myopia commonly cause by tired eyes. Its light-spectrum technology supposedly stimulates the retina cells and vision nerves to improve the photosensitivity of the eyes. It is also supposed to be enhanced with visual near-far stimulation to effectively prevent and control myopia caused by tired ciliary muscle. any comments about these claims? details of EyeRelax2 can be found at www.eyecollege.com
Medical/alternative treatment of MYOPIA? Myopia, a refractive disorder of eyes requires concve leses for seeing clearly. Is there any medical/ alternative tretment available to correct/treat this condition or stop progression of MYOPIA.
high myopia? my daughter is turning 5 yo & her doctor's diagnoses that she has a high myopia in her left eye (20/700). is there a chance for her eye to be treated or to be 20/20 even if she's gonna wear an eyewear consistently? Hope to hear from you soon.
Degenerative myopia? How can I tell if I have it or not? I'm 13 and my vision has been getting worse every year for just about the past 7 years. I believe there was one year when my vision actually got better, but I dunno. Last I checked, my vision was -9 and -7 in my right and left eye, and I know it's gotten worse this year. Do I have degenerative myopia? Sorry, I misunderstood. Thanks to everyone who answered. I was under the impression progressive myopia never gets better, lol. Thanks again. :)
Pathlogical myopia? I've always been extremely nearsighted. I've been going to the eye doctor yearly and wearing glasses since I was 1 or 2 years old. I think my prescription is -8.5 in one eye and -9.5 in the other. I'm 18 years old now and I was wondering that if I had something like pathological myopia (where your prescription does not plateau after you eyes stop developing) or RP my eye doctor would have told me about it, right? Or I would have known about it by now, right? Thanks in advance. I've always been extremely nearsighted. I've been going to the eye doctor yearly and wearing glasses since I was 1 or 2 years old. Can Myopia be termed as ailment for denial of mediclaim under pre-existence deceases? I have obtained a mediclaim policy. While opting the policy I have clearly mentioned existance of myopia in the medical necessity column. Insurance company issued me mediclaim policy withoout any conditions of exlusions. Insurance company's denial compelled me to lodge a complaint with Hon. CDRF for redressal for claiming medical expenses with mental agony of Rs. 100000/- with legal expenses of Rs. 20000/-. Hon. CDRF partly allowed my claim and held Ins.com. liable to pay me claim amount with 9% interest with cost of Rs. 5000 towards mental agony and Rs. 2000 for legal charges. Insurance com. subsequently gone in appeal with State Com.. Their appeal dismissed with cost of Rs. 1000/-. Just today only I have received awarded claim. But I am denied interest on the deposit amount which was deposited by Company as required for submitting an appeal. Can any body tell me, whether I conclude with satisfaction of claim or still is there is provision for teaching lessan to Ins. Com.?
bad myopia? When does myopia become just embarrassingly bad? I have -4.00 in one eye and -4.25 in the other, and I can not visit my ophthalmologist just yet, so I do not want that answer please.
Mild Myopia and astigmatism causing headaches/blurring? I have been suffering from daily headaches recently, and problems focusing when reading and using a computer. I can read the words fine but I feel I am straining to read them, sometimes to the extent I feel I am going cross-eyed with the effort! I have had tests at the doc but he found nothing, perfectly healthy, and suggested I went to an optician. I went for an eye test and found that I have VERY mild myopia L 0.25 R 0.50 with 0.25 astigmatism (170 degrees). Most people have said it is pointless for me to get glasses for such a pathetic prescription. Should I try some low cost glasses out just in case this helps? I need to read very frequently and am just desperate to stop these headaches!
Improving mild myopia? I have been recently diagnosed with mild myopia (-1 diopeter). I am 20 years old. I was wondering if there is ways to improve my myopia or prevent it from worsening. Is it possible to prevent myopia from worsening and is eye exercises useful? I believe I have a bit of myopia due to uni studies.
astigmatism to myopia? Hi, I have astigmatism and I wear glasses only to wacht the TV, read, study... and I would like to know if it is possible it becomes a myopia.
Is there a cure for myopia? i have a 16 yr old nephew who aspires to be a pilot but he has myopia (quite serious). I don't think laser is suitable for him since he is still young. Is there other ways to cure myopia? safe ones? thanks
Is This Myopia? Hi All. Some of our family, on my moms side, suffer from a lazy eye and have to wear glasses. Many people have told me in the past that i have a lazy eye and can be seen on photo's. If i close my normal eye, and look through my lazy eye, even if i look at the monitor the text is blurrey. If i move my head forward towards the monitor the text becomes clear. Even at a normal distance i can read the text from my lazy eye but its not as clear. With both eyes open i can see fine. Is this considered Myopia? And would i need to wear glasses for it? Ps. I also have a squint and a frown and they have both been bad habits since i was about 7 years old. Are people with a lazy eye more prone to Myopia? I ma have had this for ages and not even known. Its only after being axious about my eyes i started testing them on everything.
Will my myopia stop (shortsightedness)? Since I was 12 or 13 my eyesight has changed slightly each year, I am now at -5.00 and it hasnt changed for around 13 months (at least not drastically, since before I used to notice bluryness and had to change prescription). Have my eyes stabalised yet since I am 20 and does this progressive myopia stop? Thanks AM I LIKELY TO GET TO -7.00 OR WORSE ?
-2.5 Myopia and suddenly I can see without my contact lenses? Hi. I'm 24, I've used contact lenses since I was 18. I have myopia, -2.75 Left, -2.50 Right Last week (Jan 1st) I changed my mensual lense pairs as normal as I used to, and when I put my new rigth contact lense, my vision turns blurred. I took off the lense, and without it, I could see!!! Clear, like If I had one......Since then I only use my left lense, and I can see clear on my rigth eye. Should I worry? Thanks.
Remedy for Myopia? I have really bad eyesight, when I wear glasses (which is almost never because of how thick they are), the prescription is a little over - 8.00 in each eye. Now I know that there will be a slew of people that will want to tell me how lasik, glasses or contacts are the only ways to fix this. I don't buy this, and quite frankly I am not looking for a lecture on what and why for the conventional route of correction. Is there a nutritional, supplement, or some other alternative way to reverse myopia? If you know of any, please give me some information. Please note, I am NOT interested in answers that will go on and on about conventional ways of correction. Thanks
Should those with myopia not wear glasses when possible? According to this website: (the very last section) http://www.i-see.org/eyeglasses_harmful/chap6.html myopic glasses worsen the condition im pretty younger still in my early teens and im at about -6.5 diopters and ive had glasses since 2nd grade should i continue to wear them? and is there any treatment/ way to slow down myopia? thx guys
How to increase myopia (nearsightedness)? Hi everyone, I have myopia on my both eyes one 3.75 and the other 4.00, for some reasons I want to INCREASE my nearsightness to around 4.75 by 4.5 in about two to three weeks, please, please answer me if you know a way for diong this. I know this will be irreversible. please help me. thanks
Is this psuedo myopia or worse? Whenever I wear my glasses on the computer for a long time, things in the distance get really out of focus. After resting them it gets better. However, When I wear my glasses frequently I notice something blurrier soon after. Then the blurriness doesn't go away. This keeps on happening while if I barely wear my glasses I don't see new blur very often. It seems like the theory of psuedomyopia becoming myopia is fitting this phenominon better than what most doctors will tell me. How would you explain what is happening? By the way this happens especially quickly when I get new glasses (where my vision gets worse within a week or two). This has happened over and over again through the years. Why is this happening? It makes me feel like glasses are bad for my eyes! Laura- thanks a lot, I guess you should tell me to not trust my most important sense now. I have myopia and I understand how the ciliary muscles work at close distances. I'm mostly concerned about my vision changes though.
I suddenly have myopia! Any explanations? Up until now, I have had perfect vision. However, just last saturday I noticed that my right eye was out of focus. Is it common to develop myopia that quickly? Also, are monacles still sold as corrective lenses?
